RR vs PBKS: In the Indian Premier League of April 6th, 2025, Rajasthan Royals (RR) delivered a near-perfect performance. They were able to overpower the Punjab Kings (PBKS) by a total of 50 runs in the 1st home game of the IPL 2025. The return of Yashasvi Jaiswal to form, the late fireworks of Riyan Parag, and the clinical bowling display, all ensured that RR was able to dominate right from the start to the finish.

RR vs PBKS: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson set the stage

After the shaky start, Jaiswal scored 67 runs off 47 balls. He was able to find his rhythm, and then he smashed back-to-back 6s off Marco Jansen in the 4th over. The Skipper Sanju Samson, who scored 38 runs off 24 balls, offered early momentum as the RR posted the highest powerplay score of the season.

PBKS definitely fought back with the slower balls coming from Lockie Ferguson, who stood at 2/37, and the acceleration of Yuzvendra Chahal and the explosive finish of Parag, who was at 43 off 23, propelled RR to 205/4, the 1st 200 total that was at Mullanpur in Indian Premier League 2025.

Archer’s and his fiery spell broke PBKS early

Jofra Archer, who was on 3/25, announced his return in style. He dismantled PBKS’ top order at a sheer pace. His 1st ball uprooted Priyansh Arya and his off-stump, and the 148.6kph thunderbolt sent Shreyas Iyer packing.

Maheesh Theekshana (2/26) and Sandeep Sharma (2/21) tightened up the screws. They reduced PBKS to 42/4 in just 7 overs.

Wadhera and his resistance was in vain

Nehal Wadhera, with 62 off 42, and Glenn Maxwell, with 30 off 22, briefly revived the team with the 88-run stand. However, Sri Lankan spinners like Wanindu Hasaranga and Theekshana were able to outsmart them with some clear variations. After Maxwell held out in the 15th over, PBKS saw their collapse. They were just able to manage 1 boundary in the last 34 balls.

Key takeaways from RR vs PBKS

  • RR’s batting depth shone right. From the anchor role of Jaiswal to Parag and his finishing burst, the lineup of RR fired collectively.
  • Archer’s menacing return created pace and accuracy, which set the tone for the bowling dominance of the RR.
  • PBKS showed middle-order struggles despite the 50 by Wadher. The lack of support from the other batters cost the team quite dearly.

  • RR 205/4 – Jaiswal was at 67, and Parag at 43*; Ferguson made to 2/37.
  • PBKS 155/9 – Wadhera was at 62, and Maxwell was at 30; Archer made it to 3/25.
