
Saif Ali Khan, a popular Bollywood actor, got stabbed multiple times during the home invasion. The incident occurred in the upscale Bandra West neighborhood in Mumbai early Thursday morning.
The attacker, demanding INR 1 crore ransom initially entered Jehangir’s room, Khan’s 4-year-old son, as per the sources. 3 people, including Khan, a maid and a nurse, sustained injuries in the attack.
Khan, by his son Ibrahim, was rushed to the Lilavati hospital in the auto-rickshaw after there was a delay in the car’s arrival. The doctors confirmed that Khan’s condition is now stable. Even though he suffered some severe injuries to the spinal cord and needed plastic surgery for the deep wounds to the neck and hand.
Introduced Entered via Adjacent Building, as per CCTV Footage
As per reports, the attacker accessed the compound through the adjacent building. It was captured on the CCTV in the actor’s home stairwell. The attacker was dressed in jeans, a t-shirt and an orange scarf.
Upon entering the room, the suspect was first confronted by Eliyama Phillipes, the nurse, who has been with the family for the past 4 years. Spotting the intruder in the room of Jehangir, she tried to resist and sustained some injuries on her wrists and hands before she alerted Saif Ali Khan about the incident.
During the struggle, Khan got stabbed 6 times with the knife fragment that lodged in the thoracic spine cord. A maid named Geeta, another staff member also suffered some injuries in this incident.
Security Concerns Raised During Police Investigation
Mumbai police registered the case under the sections of trespassing, robbery and grievous hurt. The suspect, however, is yet to be apprehended. As for the incident, it raised concerns regarding the security measures of the building, as the questions are not emerging regarding how the intruder entered completely undetected and why there was a failure from the end of security guards to intervene.
Political Reactions Are Sparking Debate Over Mumbai’s Safety
The attack has sparked political controversy, as the opposition leaders are now questioning Mumbai residents’ safety. Priyanka Chaturvedi, Shiv Sena’s leader, criticized the BJP-led state government, saying, ‘If celebrities like Saif Ali Khan are not safe, who in Mumbai is?’
The attack was called ‘unfortunate’ by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. However, he refuted the claims related to the city’s declining safety. With the investigation continuing, this incident highlights the alarming lapses within security. It also raises some broader questions regarding the safety of the Mumbai public.
