The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 began with a bang as KKR vs RCB took center stage at Eden Gardens. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clashed against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a thrilling encounter that lived up to the hype. The match was the perfect blend of explosive batting, a lot of drama, and disciplined bowling, making it a memorable opener for the fans. RCB emerged victorious by 7 wickets, all thanks to the stellar performance shown by Virat Kohli and the disciplined bowling attack led by Josh Hazlewood.

Indian Premier League viral moment and Virat Kohli’s masterclass

Virat Kohli became the leading run-scorer in the IPL history. He proved why he is the game’s legend. With his unbeaten 59-run knock off the 36 balls, including the 3 sixes and 4 fours, it guided the RCB team to the comfortable win. Kohli was also able to achieve a unique milestone. He surpassed Shikhar Dhawan’s record to become the player with the most runs within IPL history’s successful chases. In 59 innings, his 2205 runs make him stand atop the elite list.

The match, though, had a bit of unexpected drama when the fan breached security to meet Kohli. He was full of excitement when he ran to the field and touched Kohli’s feet. He even hugged Kohli before he was escorted out by security. This incident went viral, as it added a quirky twist to the high-octane encounter.

Josh Hazlewood showed Brilliance as RCB achieved bowling dominance

The victory of RCB was built on the strong foundation which was laid by bowlers. Hazlewood, the pace spearhead, was able to deliver a disciplined spell, claiming 2 crucial wickets. By reflecting on his performance, he said he bowled as per the conditions, highlighting his adaptability on the Eden Gardens pitch. Krunal Pandya, on the other hand, shone with the 3-wicket haul, restricting the team of KKR to 174/8.

The lineup of KKR struggled to gain the momentum. It was despite the quickfire by Ajinkya Rahane, getting 56 off 31 balls, and the 44 of 26 by Sunil Narine. Angkrish Raghuvanshi was able to contribute 30 runs. However, all of it was not enough to post a challenging total.

RCB had a commanding chase

RCB and the team’s chase was the perfect masterclass in controlled aggression. Philip Salt, the opener who achieved 56 off 31 balls and Virat Kohli stitched for the 95-run partnership. They set the tone for innings. The unbeaten knock by Kohli combined with Liam Livingstone’s quick 15 off 5 balls ensured RCB was able to cross the finish line with complete ease, sealing the 7-wicket win.

The KKR vs RCB clash was a perfect start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. While the all-around performance of RCB and the brilliance of Kohli stole the show, the match even reminded us why IPL is a thrilling tournament in the world. With such higher-quality cricket and some unforgettable moments, the season now promises to be the perfect rollercoaster ride for the fans.
