SRH vs LSG: Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad erupted with complete disbelief as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) completely bulldozed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 5 wickets in the Indian Premier League clash. It was not just anywhere but was a statement. It was the statement written in the flaming willow of Nicolas Pooran, firing spell of Shardul Thakur and the audacious captaincy shown by Rishabh Pant.

SRH vs LSG: Rishabh Pant gamble paid off

Rishabh Pant, the skipper of LSG raised eyebrows at the toss. He opted for bowling first on the flat track that was tailored made for the batting carnage of SRH.. However Pant who is popular for the Daredevil instincts, doubled up on the bowling attack and he did deliver right.

Shardul Thakur who remained to be the unsold man in the auction of 2025, before getting roped in as the injury replacement, turned out to be the protagonist of the show. He ripped through the SRH top order. He was able to dismiss Abhishek Sharma for six runs and Ishan Kishan who was fresh of the century in the opener, for the golden Duck.

4/34 of Thakur did not just bag him Purple cap but also the hundredth IPL wicket. It silenced the critics with an amazing delivery.

SRH fought back with Travis Head flashes and Pat Cummins berserk

LSG vs SRH saw Travis Head threatening to hijack the IPL game early on. He clubbed 5 fours and 6 sixes in just 28 balls, racing to 47 runs. However, his momentum was completely choked by LSG’s disciplined bowling. The gem of a delivery from uncapped Prince Yadav sent him back. Yadav’s night turned bittersweet—though he dismissed the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen for 23 runs, it was pure chaos afterward. The youngster still enjoyed his moment in the spotlight, even as he winced in pain amid Hyderabad’s crumbling innings.

Just when the Lucknow team thought they were about to see the deal, Pat Cummins from SRH unleashed the jaw dropping 18 runs from 4 balls. It included 6s that came in consecutively three times. The crowd was ballistic until a slower ball by Avesh Khan ended the madness. It left SRH at 190/9.

Pooran hurricane led to fastest IPL 50 lighting up the chase

LSG chasing 191 showed a wobbled start, as Aiden Markram got out with just 1 run. Then entered Mitchell Marsh who scored 52 runs in 31 balls and anchored the innings with the muscle and the grit. The real fireworks came in from Nicholas Pooran. Left handed from the West Indies did not just bad but he detonated. He scored 50 runs in 18 balls and charted the fastest 50 record of IPL. His bat was swinging like scythe, through the bowling of Sunrisers Hyderabad. He had 6 sizes, 6 fours and zero mercy. By the time he was around 70 as he got out, the game was almost over.

Pant was quite desperate for the runs after the duck in the LSG opener. It crashed his way up to 15 runs. However Abdul Samad who scored 21 off 8 balls and David Miller who scored 13 runs from 7 balls, were able to finish the job with 23 balls left. The scoreboard completely blessed 193/5 making the cheese quite ruthless . It seemed like the bowlers of Hyderabad saw the ghost.

What is next?

As the Indian Premier League proceeds, Lucknow is buzzing with momentum and they will be facing Punjab Kings on the first April. Ashwa Sunrisers Hyderabad is back to drawing the board before the clash with Delhi Capitals on March 30. One thing after this match that is clear is if Pooran continues to swing like this, even the heavens will not be able to stop Lucknow getting the charge of the IPL.

  • Orange cap was earned by Nicolas Pooran.
  • The purple cap was taken away by Shardul Thakur.
  • The play of the day was an 18 ball 50 by Pooran. It was in knockout punctuation that left the Hyderabad team gasping.

What remains clear is that cricket is not always about logic. It at times is also about the man with the mission and mohawk. It can turn the pitch into the personal playground. Lucknow was able to find the spark while Hyderabad will continue to search for theirs.

Stay tuned! The best is yet to come.
