DC vs LSG: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 kicked off with a bang as the teams, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), clashed in the high-octane encounter at YSR Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium, Visakhapatnam. The match had it all, including dramatic collapses, big hits, and the last-over finish. All of it left the fans on the edge of their seats. In the end, it was the heroic unbeaten 66 of Ashutosh Sharma that sealed the thrilling 1-wicket win for the Delhi Capitals, marking the dream start to the campaign.

DC vs LSG was a batting masterclass from Lucknow Super Giants power hitters

Opting to bowl first, the DC team decision backfired initially, as the top order of LSG unleashed carnage. Mitchell Marsh’s 72 off 36 balls and Nicholas Pooran’s 75 off 30 balls altogether tore into a bowling attack, smashing the 15 sixes between them. The Pooran’s assault on Tristan Stubbs’s 28 runs in the single over was quite particularly brutal. It left DC scrambling for some answers. At 161/2, after the 13 overs, the LSG team looked set for the mammoth total, even 250 possibly.

However, the bowlers of DC staged a remarkable comeback. Mitchell Starc- 3/42 and Kuldeep Yadav- 2/20 triggered the collapse, with the LSG losing the 6 wickets for 48 runs in the last 7 overs. The late cameo of David Miller, 18 off 6, pushed the LSG team to 209/8. However, it felt like they fell short of the truly imposing total.

Delhi Capitals made a rollercoaster chase

Chasing the target of 210, DC innings made a disastrous beginning. Shardul Thakur, the surprise weapon of LSG, removed Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel in 1st over. Then M Siddharth dismissed Sameer Rizvi, and it reduced DC to 7/3. Axar Patel, on the other hand, made 23 off 13, and Faf du Plessis made 21 off 12. It briefly revived the hopes. However, LSG continued to strike at regular intervals.

At 65/5, in the 7th over, the chances of DC seemed bleak. Then Ashutosh Sharma entered. Initially, he struggled and stood at 20 off 20, but then he exploded when it actually mattered the most. He then smashed 46 off the next 11 balls. As for Vipraj Nigam, the debutant made 39 off 19 runs and played one of the crucial cameos. However, it was Ashutosh who ensured that he held his nerve as he hit the winning 6 off Shahbaz Ahmed with 3 balls left at the end.

Rishabh Pant made an emotional return and ended in heartbreak

For Pant, the game was emotional. It was his 1st against the former franchise. Despite the strong start by LSG and DC and their resilience, it stunned visitors. Pant’s captaincy was sharp, but Ashutosh’s brilliance overshadowed his homecoming.

Post the match, Lance Klusener, the LSG coach, admitted they were 20 or 30 runs short, but Pant praised the batters and hinted at the slight disconnect in camp.

What is next in the Indian Premier League 2025?

The match has set the tone for many more upcoming matches by the team. This proves why IPL is an exciting T20 tournament. As for the last match, from it, DC will be taking an immense amount of confidence from their win, while LSG is to regroup quicker before they face the Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 27th.

As of now, the heroics of Ashutosh Sharma will be the talk of the town’s talk and the reminder that in the DC vs LSG rivalry, the game will never be over until there is the last ball.

Stay tuned! The best is yet to come.
