Zomato, the food delivery giant, unveiled a major shift within corporate identity. The food delivery giant is all set to undergo a significant transformation, with the Board approving the corporate name change. It’s now  Eternal Limited or Zomato Eternal Limited. The announcement was made via stock exchange filing on 6th February 2025. It marks a strategic pivot, with the company expanding beyond the core business of food delivery.

Zomato Eternal Strategic Rationale

In the detailed letter to BSE, Zomato’s CEO and co-founder, Deepinder Goyal, explained that Eternal was adopted as a name initially after the acquisition of Blinkit.

Goyal stated, “When something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future, we knew it was time for this change.”.

Goyal further emphasized that with the corporate entity being renamed to Eternal, Zomato, the consumer-facing all would retain the original branding.

Zomato Eternal Four-Pillar Business Structure

Under the umbrella move made by Goyal, the company would operate with 4 major business verticals. It would include,

  • Zomato; the food delivery platform
  • Blinkit; offering quick commerce service
  • District; A recent business division launch and
  • Hyperpure; B2B restaurant supply chain service provider.

Zomato Eternal Financial Context

Rebranding of the corporate identity comes amidst the challenging market situations, and the company’s Q3FY25 results show some mixed signals. While the consolidated revenue saw a surge of 64% YoY to INR 5404 crore. The profit after tax declined 57% to INR 59 crores, in comparison to last year’s same period.

The food ordering division CEO, Rakesh Ranjan, acknowledged the broad-based slowdown in demand since 2024 in late November.

Zomato Eternal Path Forward

The name change, despite getting the Board’s approval, will still need approval from the shareholders. Goyal has addressed the new Identity’s weight in the letter to BSE. He stated, “Eternal is a powerful name… it carries both a promise and a paradox.” It’s expected that the company’s stock symbol will also transition from Zomato to Eternal, thereby reflecting comprehensive corporate evolution.

The strategic rebranding made by the organization is a significant milestone in the journey of the company from being a food delivery platform to a diversified tech enterprise. It signals the ambition to have sustained growth across its multiple sectors.
