
An FIR has been registered against Apoorva Makhija, a popular YouTuber, Ranveer Allahbadia, a podcaster and Samay Raina, the comedian, following their involvement in “India’s Got Latent” roast show. This complaint was filed by Sanmati Pandey. He accused them of making remarks that allegedly insulted the religious sentiments while undermining the system of Indian families.
Apoorva Makhija’s Comments on Arunachal Pradesh Start Controversy
Makhija, also called The Rebel Kid, drew criticism for statements about food habits in Arunachal Pradesh. She claimed, “People of Arunachal Pradesh eat dog meat even though I have never tasted it. I know because my friends eat it. They even eat their pets at times.” The remark sparked outrage, while many argue that it is spreading misinformation. While threatening the communal harmony within the northeastern state.
Legal Actions and Political Reactions on Controversy
The controversies are triggering legal actions, with Maharashtra Cyber Cell filing a case under the IT Act. Notices are sent as per reports to at least 30 individuals who are linked to the show, summoning them for their appearance for questioning. The National Commission for Women also summoned Ranveer Allahbadia and the others for the hearing on 17th February, stating that the remarks made by him violated social dignity.
The matter of controversies even reached Parliament. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske demanded stricter regulations on OTT content. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi further announced her plans to raise an issue within the parliamentary panel meeting.
Amidst all the backlash, Allahbadia took to social media and issued a public apology. He acknowledged that the comments he made were inappropriate and lacked comedic value. However, the controversy still continues to fuel the debates around humor boundaries and the boundaries of free speech within digital media.
