With that aim in mind, the Adani Group started its work on expanding the coal mines in the Hasdeo Arand forest areas of Chhattisgarh.
The Adani Hasdeo Project:
The Adani Hasdeo project is a venture taken up by the Adani Group in Chhattisgarh’s northern district of Sarguja. This region has one of central Asia’s largest blocks of forests, covering 170,000 hectares of land. It is also known for its extensive coal reserves. The Hasdeo Arand coalfield covers 1879.6 square km and contains 23 coal blocks.
The Adani Group planned to use coal resources to increase Chhattisgarh’s power production capacity. The approval for this project was given on 6 April 2022. As a part of this project, the Adani Group was also approved to build a 75-km long rail line. This railway line would be used for the transportation of coal and workers. It would also bring about an overall development in the Hasdeo region and lead to overall infrastructural development in the area.
The Main Aim of the Project:
The main aim of the Adani Hasdeo project was to ensure that India’s energy needs were fulfilled. This was also done as an attempt to bring about developments in various areas of Chhattisgarh. Yes, the conglomerate did have to meet with a lot of resistance during the initial stages of the project. However, it finally received its approval to continue working on expanding the coal mines in Chhattisgarh.
The Adani Hasdeo project is a remarkable venture taken up by the Adani Group. This is to impact the local communities in Chhattisgarh positively. The Rajasthan state electricity generation company, Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited, had also formed a joint venture with Adani Enterprises for this purpose.

The Adani Group’s journey towards expanding the coal mines was a challenging affair. It had to be made clear to the common people how this project would add value to their life. They showed protests to bring an end to the project at the very initial stage of it. However, the Adani officials handled the situation with empathy. They made people aware of the various benefits of the project. They also tried to bring out the importance of achieving energy security in the state.
Adani’s Supremacy Over the Coal Sector:
The conglomerate has been one of the biggest players in the mining industry. The business group is responsible for operating multiple coal mines both in India and abroad. One of its biggest ventures has been expanding the Carmichael coal mines in Australia. Other than that, the Adani Group is a part of a lot of other similar projects. In these projects, they have made maximum use of available resources. These projects have given them the required experience and expertise to handle vast projects. They have made their mark in bringing energy security to different countries worldwide.
